Welcome to 1st Grade! I am excited to begin our year and get to know all my fabulous families. I am a Colorado native, and grew up in Northern Colorado. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Fort Lewis College in Durango. After a few years in the business world, I returned to school, attending Regis University to obtain my Masters in Education. I am beginning my 13th year of teaching - 10th year with Imagine Firestone. I enjoy reading, hiking and baking pies in my free time.
Units of Study
(All homework is listed on the calendar. Please click on the homework tab under the date.)
CKLA Skills - Unit 3's focus is beginning the writing process as well as spelling words. We will continue learning new sound pairs such as /oo/ and /ou/. We will continue to review parts of a story as well as comprehension. Please check the homework sections for spelling words as well as the list your child brought home.
CKLA Domain - Ancient Egypt is the focus until Thanksgiving break. When we return we will continue with early civilizations and then 3 world religions - Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Our holiday party will incorporate aspects from each of these religions.
I have begun sight word testing on September 6. Students will come home with 5 index cards with (hopefully) one sight word on each card. These words are also written in his/her planner under spelling words. Please have your child practice these words each night. They need to bring the cards back on either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday of the following week to be retested. Students will then get 5 new words to practice the following week. We are using the FRY SIGHT WORD LIST. The 1st-grade goal to be proficient is 150 words mastered by the end of the school year. We test on the 500 words on the list.
All students are tested on Wednesday of each week.

Take it to the customer service desk or reload it at the register when doing your shopping & ICSF will receive 5% cash back. Each time you shop, reload your card. You can use cash, checks or a credit card to reload up to $500.00 at a time. There is a five minute delay once you reload before the funds are available.
