Hello and welcome to the Imagine Charter Pre-K program. Our preschool program utilizes curriculum from Core Knowledge, Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA), Zoophonics and Handwriting Without Tears. We are excited to introduce these to you and your child as they present fun hands on activities to help them learn and grow. Our ultimate goals over the next year are to have your child develop a love for learning, create lifelong friendships and prepare them for their next adventure in Kindergarten.
We are looking forward to getting to know your family, but before we can do that, you need to know about us.
My name is Danielle Gallegos and I have been teaching Pre-K professionally since 2007. I am currently continuing my education to obtain my masters in early childhood. This will be a slow process but learning new things is always exciting! I am the oldest of 3 girls and 18 cousins, so children have always been a huge part of my life. I live in Mead with my husband Joe and two Daughters; Olivia (9) and Gianna (4) and our Chocolate Lab, Cash. My girls are avid dancers and performers and inspire me every day to be a better teacher and person. This is my fourth year here at Imagine and I am so excited to be back. I am so proud to be a part of this amazing school community. Besides teaching, my passions are: writing, reading, history, yoga, dance, music and crafts. I also love to fly fish and spend time in the outdoors. This year is going to be a wonderful adventure and I am thrilled to be a part of your family!
My name is Maria Ochoa and I am so excited to be your child’s teacher this year. I live in Longmont with my husband Joao and my Daughter Sophia who will be in first grade next year at Imagine. I have volunteered in the children’s ministry program at my church for the past 4 years. I love doing art with preschoolers and inspiring their creativity. This is my second year at Imagine and I am looking forward to teaching Spanish and leading the afternoon program. When I am not teaching I enjoy going on bike rides, swimming, and spending time with my family.
E.W.A.P Enrichment schedule: Classes begin at 2:00pm.
Wednesday: Amazing Athletes
The next few weeks in Pre-K are going to be wild! We are learning all about animals! We began last week with Mammals and continue this week with Reptiles and Amphibians. Next week we will be learning about birds. With the help of our CKLA curriculum we hope that our preschoolers will get a better understanding of all animals including their characteristics and environments. Lessons plans are always posted in the classroom and on our web page.
We are now signing our name every day in class before we have morning welcome. We are also working hard at our writing centers with letters. We are using zoophonics, handwriting without tears and CKLA to help us build up our sound, recognition and handwriting skills so that our students can go to kindergarten with confidence in these areas. You may see some worksheets come home in folders and even a few exercises for at home practice. These are not mandatory to turn in but the child will receive a sticker upon completing these and returning them to school. This goes for numbers as well.
This week we were able to venture outside…Thank goodness, we love our outside playtime! When our playground is snowy and icy we don’t get to venture out as often. We do however have indoor movement/recess. Sometimes we play on a program called go noodle which has guided dancing and exercises that we do as a class. We also love cosmic yoga! (You can do both of these online programs at home as well) We also play games such as musical chairs and parachute. We love to get out our obstacle course materials as well to get those gross motor skills working. No matter what the weather outside is giving us we are always trying to move our bodies as many studies show that our brains work better after physical activity.
Speaking of our playground and outside, we do our best to make sure our parking lot, sidewalks and courtyard are clear of snow and ice however there are sometimes patches that are tough to melt. Please be careful traveling in and out of the building and let us know if there are any spots we should be aware of. Thank you!
Valentine’s day isn’t for a while still but we wanted to give a heads up for you to keep a shoebox for your child to decorate in class that week. You don’t have to bring them in yet. I will let you know when we need them. J
