Welcome to Mrs. Smith's Reading Room!
Hello! My name is Erica Smith and I am one of the literacy specialists at Imagine. This is my ninth year at Imagine and my third year teaching literacy intervention. Prior to this role, I taught second grade for five years, first grade for a half a year, and at the very beginning I started out as a special education paraprofessional.
I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in 2010 with a BA in elementary education and from Regis University in 2018 with a Masters in Reading and a K-12 Reading Specialist endorsement. As a life-long learner, I believe it is so important for me to seek out new ways for me to grow as a teacher. One of my most favorite, recent trainings was for a multi-sensory, research-based, structured language approach program called Orton-Gillingham.
I live in Mead, CO with my husband, Cleveland, who teaches 6th Grade English & Language Arts at Altona Middle School in Longmont. We love to cook, garden, travel, read, hang out with friends and family, and spend time outdoors. A fun fact about us is that we actually teach in the summers too! We work at a boys' wilderness camp in northern Minnesota called Camp Kooch-I-Ching where I teach arts/crafts and Cleveland teaches woodsmanship/survival skills.
